ABIQUA promotes integration among companies
and universities in Latin America


     The 15th Edition of the Quality Prize of South América and Fórum 2008 organized by ABIQUA took place on June 27 and 28 in Rio de Janeiro. The event was in the Intercontinental Hotel in Sao Conrado and hosted around 90 companies and 40 universities in Brazil and Latin America.

     On the 28th, in a formal Cerimony, the Incentive Trophy was given to public and private organizations which invested in quality and innovation in different segments. On the 27th, the CODUNAL forum – Committee for Development of Latin American Universities – BUSINESS ROUND” took place. Representatives of Ecuatorian and Brazilian institutions took part in the committees, among whom were Rector Manuel Haz Alvarez, from Universidade Técnica Estatal de Quevedo/Ecuador and the Director of Lutheran University Centers in Brazil  (ULBRA), professor Antônio Estanislau Sanches. “An event like this promotes exchange among professors, students and university practices” says Sanches.


     So as to strengthen the relationship among universities and companies, the committee had the participation of entrepreneurs such as Jorge Villa Espinoza, president of the ecuatorian company  Indústria Licorera Villa S.A. - ILVISA and the president of Cia de Franchising, Marcos Nascimento. “Universities have to qualify students as entrepeneurs with subjects and techniques aimed at the market, there must be more integration” claims Nascimento.


     The aim of these meetings is generate partnerships among companies and universities so as to transform knowledge into socio-economic values. In the Business Round commercial relations were made between companies and institutions in Latin America. During the event, the Argentine Confederation of Small and Medium Companies (CAME) began a series of deals with ABIQUA for more quality exchange with Argentine companies.


     The Quality Prize of South America also had the participation of authorities of different sectors such as the consuls of Panama, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. According to Glorisabel Thompson-Flores, General Consul of Panama in Rio de Janeiro, this kind of incentive can promote integration in Latin America besides incentive competition and quality of final product.
